Adams Apprenticeship Gala

Last Thursday, February 25th, 2016, UNC’s Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Kenan-Flagler Business School hosted the first Adams Apprenticeship Gala Awards Ceremony and Dinner. The Adams Apprenticeship program is a lifelong network of students and successful UNC alumni that exists to shape, support, and speed the transition to entrepreneurial careers with successful outcomes. The program matches highly qualified, successful professionals with high-achieving students, and facilitates productive and mutually beneficial long-term relationships. The Adams Apprenticeship experience begins with the selection of diverse, entrepreneurially minded students from across the UNC campus who demonstrate extraordinary potential. Last Thursday’s event celebrated the graduation of their first cohort of Apprentices and welcomed their second cohort of promising entrepreneurial students to the Adams Apprenticeship.

Adams Entrepreneurial Pioneer Award

The Adams program also awarded the inaugural Adams Entrepreneurial Pioneer Award to Eric Becker, Caretta’s fearless leader and career-long investor and mentor. Eric was recognized for his national leadership in entrepreneurship, and his sustained demonstrated commitment to supporting future entrepreneurs through his mentorship, guidance and support. During Eric’s acceptance speech, he reflected on the role many of his mentors played in his life and expressed his commitment and excitement to be a mentor to the Adam’s Apprentices. Eric has been involved with UNC’s business school and entrepreneurship program for nearly a decade. Most recently, Eric and the Becker family championed UNC’s leading accelerator program, Launch Chapel Hill, which has served as an important catalyst to the development of UNC’s and the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Adams Forum

The morning after the award ceremony, the Adams program held their inaugural Adams Forum. It was an opportunity for Eric, the Caretta team, and dozens of other entrepreneurial advisors to connect with UNC alumni and the apprentices first hand, learn about recent activities at UNC in the entrepreneurial space, and further engage in the vision of the Adams Apprenticeship Program.

With Caretta and all of our partnerships, we believe that business is all about people - great relationships and leaders. We love working with founders who think big, have high standards and challenge the status quo. As such, we are thrilled to be involved with the Adam’s Apprenticeship program to foster relationships with young entrepreneurs and to stay connected with a vibrant startup community.
